We talked briefly, yesterday, about recent/ongoing discussion about artificial intelligence and possible dystopian outcomes. The nightmare scenario is described in an article in FT Magazine (October 31, 2014) — Richard Waters, "Artificial intelligence: machine v man." This is, alas, behind a paywall. Will make copies available.
A corrective view is provided by Jaron Lanier, in "The Myth of AI" at edge.org.
These are not required reading, but the issues certainly interested several of us in class, hence this note.
